A rumor has pop up concerning the next Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS. An anonymous source told ZeldaInformer that the 3DS Smash Bros. title will be called Super Smash Bros. Memories and will feature retro characters like Donkey Kong Jr., and Pac-Man. On the other hand, the Wii U version will feature modern characters. The 3DS and Wii U Super Smash Bros. games won’t be identical, but is this the type of idea Sakurai is thinking about?

I’ve seen this statement elsewhere and I just wish there was some kind of confirmation on the part of either Nintendo, Sora Ltd., or Masahiro Sakurai himself…otherwise this is just another random rumor…
