Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Wii U title Pikmin 3 will feature Off-TV Play so you can play through the whole game on just the Wii U GamePad screen. Miyamoto describes it as “GameCube-style gameplay in your hands.” Plus, it was revealed that there is going to be advertising for Pikmin at cinemas.
#Pikmin3 off-TV play can be thought of as GameCube-style gameplay in your hand. Wii Remote Plus’ gyro sensor can be used on TV. I think that #Pikmin3 off-TV play is the freshest gameplay experience. Please look forward to it.
Pikmin, Bulbear to appear w/ Toho Cinemas logo before movie screenings. They’ll be shown in 3D for 3D movies.
Nintendo revealed in a recent Nintendo Direct presentation that you will be able to use the Wii U GamePad as a camera in Pikmin 3 that will allow you to take up close shots that you can then post to Miiverse. You will be able to take photos at the same eye level as Pikmin.
Notice what Shigeru Miyamoto has to say about the direction they are taking in the upcoming Nintendo Wii U title Pikmin 3:
“That’s actually something that all the staff members had to debate over when we were discussing what kind of direction we should take for Pikmin 3. First of all by looking at Pikmin 1 we noticed that it wasn’t a very easy game for people to play, and from time to time they had to feel some stress. Our main aim in Pikmin 2 was to get rid of any stress as much as possible, so that it would be very user-friendly. Well, I myself couldn’t agree with that direction perfectly. That kind of nature of Pikmin 1 was exactly what I wanted to reproduce and I was actually intentionally doing so, so that Pikmin 1 could be a strategic game. When we started creating Pikmin 3 I gathered the main members who worked on Pikmin 2 and talked about how I thought it was important to get back to the basics of Pikmin 1. Or I should say that half of my job at that time wasn’t just to talk, but rather to persuade them to understand what I intended to do and to agree to my idea.”
So, it looks like the time based gameplay is indeed going to be returning to the Pikmin series in Pikmin 3. Miyamoto didn’t specifically state that but it sounds like it is returning.
You can check out some new gameplay footage for the Wii U title Pikmin 3 above coming from the latest Japanese Nintendo Direct. The game is set to be released in Japan in the Spring on 2013 and during the Wii U launch window in North America.
According to a recent release schedule Pikmin 3 has been given a vague 2013 release date. Nintendo has confirmed though that Pikmin 3 will be arriving in North America during launch window and Spring of 2013 for Japan. Since Pikmin 3 isn’t listed with other titles for launch window in Europe, so maybe it will release sometime in the Spring. Or maybe even later than that…
Kit Ellis of Nintendo was asked about the upcoming Nintendo Wii U launch window title Pikmin 3 and about whether or not it will feature off-TV play so you can play the full game strictly on the Wii U Gamepad. Ellis just gave a “no comment” answer. Well, Ellis didn’t flat out deny that Pikmin 3 will not support this feature, so maybe we will see it happen.
